kevin wilde // guy of all things web
About meI'm a well mannered creature ready to go off on a rant, on any subject, at any moment this is usually followed by a moment of calm (thinking time) which is then followed by another rant which a derived from the original rant. I go to stupid lengths to make sure I have nailed the finest of details and made sure that that 1 pixel is in the right place, damn those infernal pixels that just won’t listen to reason. Through my years in the industry, almost 3 now, I have tried to get my hands dirty with a variety of coding and design, even though I believe myself to be a dap hand at the Potatoshop (?) I believe my true place is down and dirty with those marvellous of syntaxes that cover the Front-End spectrum.
As a point of personal development/interest I have to make sure I’m privy to latest internet buzz, this comes to my lobes through popurls.com, if it’s not on there it’s not worth knowing.
virgin media HD
This site was designed and built by Start Creative for Virgin Media.
Start was put in charge of delivering a rich media micro site of sorts, for the Virgin Media HD campaign and it was my responsibility to code this bad boy up. This was my first time at the helm of a major AS3 project and my first time using the MVC framework. There were many trying times, as expected. but I am pleased with the result and I’m pleased that I could see this to the end.
The client was extremely pleased with what we delivered even stating that this is the best work we have done for them... it's all in the code.
judge gill site
Another site built completly by me. I’m very pround ofthis site because it has some very nifty stuff going on, on the home page all done with jQuery. This was achance for me see what level my skills were at, itturned out to be a very good confedence building process.
start live site
Start Live is a media events company, previously known as anymedia. Put together in a matter of weeks I was really under the cosh to get this site out on time. Using APIs such as Google, Vimeo and flickr added to the development time, but I can say happily that I got I all out on time. This site was built entirly by me, with designs done by our design team.
vs confidential
This site was designed and built by Start Creative for Virgin Atlance US.
I was pretty much put in charge of the whole, apart from the video module, front-end build to this site. Using the MODx CMS again we created a great looking and functionality rich site. I got to use a ton of jQuery on this site, which helped me development my skill no end, I tried to keep use of plug-ins to a minimum.
playsafe
This site was designed and built by Start Creative for Sony Playstation Europe.
It was my job to build all the front-end features, from simple html/css to more complex javascript/flash communication. This site would require me to use my whole knowledgebase as well as learn a great deal as I went. One of the requirements for the site was localisation for 23 countries and 15 languages, this impacted the flash on the site a great deal as it would have to render each language perfectly.
Using the CMS MODx we delivered a great looking and dynamic site we’re all proud of.
sparkler site
This is entirely a flash site which I was involved in from concept till completion and I mean that in every sense of the term. This site was a joint effort, design wise, between me and head designer at Matt&George.
Development wise I was the main person in charge of delivery of the scenes with all the animation elements contained within. The more complex animation were done off site by a professional flash animator.
On completion of the project I had the responsibility for uploading it to the server where it would live.
engine site
This was a site that already had content and just needed a new look. With designs all ready done it was my job to construct the XHTML/CSS
emplates.
The major part of the job for me was to learn ExpressionEngine from scratch and build the site using this CMS tool.
This was a great way for me to show to my employers that I was a fast learner and to prove to myself how, if I wanted, I could learn quite
quickly.
SSA site
This was a fairly easy site to built because all the pages are very similar. So I pretty much build one XHTML/CSS template and modified the colours.
The biggest part of this project for me was to sift through the hundreds of pictures that were sent to us from SSA and pick approprate ones.
howies site
My main responsibilities for that howies site was to upload new content, build new templates for things like the 'tee of the week' page and over all site maintenance.
I was also involved in concepts for the new howies site, but as of yet the new site isn't under development.
morey smith site
The designs for the Morey Smith site were sent to Matt&George from the people at Cartlidge Levene. It was my job to build the site using XHTML, CSS, JavaScript and the smallest amount of Flash.
Throughout the whole project I was to communicate with the people at Cartlidge Levene to fix any problems that they may see and some changes from the client.
momart site
Matt&George had built a bespoke CMS for the Momart site and it was my job to do the simple blue graphics, sift through images and build the XHTML/CSS templates.
This was the first site I built from scratch for Matt&George so of course any failure in this would reflect on my skills as a Front-end Web Developer, thankfully my skills prevailed and I delivered the templates free of hassle.
